Are you allergic or just sensitive.......
Not many people actually know that, and in principle it doesn't matter, because you still need to find out exactly what you can tolerate.
Personally I'm allergic. I know this because I had a series of tests done at a dermatology clinic that showed I was allergic to lanolin, which is found in wool. Often it's the lanolin most of us react to if you're a true allergy sufferer. Lanolin is only in sheep's wool, and that's exactly why we've brought in several other bases so those of us who are allergic can still wear knitwear.
Sensitivity is a bit different. It's our skin reacting to irritation on the body. That means something is pricking the skin that it doesn't like. But sensitive people will rarely break out on their body. Allergic people will.
In both cases it's important to find out what you can tolerate.
We have created an AKW scale which you can find on the front page of the webshop. This scale is our personal categorization of our yarn in relation to sensitivity or allergy. It could also simply be called a scratchiness scale.
But it's always a good idea to make a swatch and wear it where your skin is thin, for example in your bra or on the underside of your arm under a blouse or at the waist, where the skin is also thin.
We hope the new AKW scale can help you find the right yarn. On all labels and on each product in the webshop it states where on the scale that particular yarn is located.
